Acoustic treaming visualization in elastic spherical cavities

چکیده
Flow visualizations are presented for acoustic streaming occurring inside spherical elastic cavities oscillating in an acoustic field. Streaming flows are visualized using Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) and results are observed for a range of values of a dimensionless frequency parameter, M =120-306. Over the frequency range investigated, streaming flow fields remain steady at a given value of M. The magnitude of the flows circulating inside the cavity remains small (< 1 mm/s) and follows a non-linear dependency with respect to the acoustic power of the sound wave. The present boundary-driven cavity flows may enhance particle fluid transport mechanisms, leading ultimately to potential fluid mixing applications.

Visualization of Hypopharyngeal Cavities and Vocal-Tract Acoustic Modeling
The hypopharyngeal cavities constitute a bottom part of the vocal tract near the larynx consisting of the supraglottic laryngeal cavity and the bilateral cavities of the piriform fossa. Visualization of those cavities with custom magnetic resonance imaging techniques reveals that during speech the laryngeal cavity takes a form of a long-neck flask and the piriform fossa a goblet of varying shap...
متن کاملTopological Derivative for the Inverse Scattering of Elastic Waves
To establish an alternative analytical framework for the elastic-wave imaging of underground cavities, the focus of this study is an extension of the concept of topological derivative, rooted in elastostatics and shape optimization, to three-dimensional elastodynamics involving semiinfinite and infinite solids. The main result of the proposed boundary integral approach is a formula for topologi...
متن کاملPacking of elastic wires in spherical cavities.
We investigate the morphologies and maximum packing density of thin wires packed into spherical cavities. Using simulations and experiments, we find that ordered as well as disordered structures emerge, depending on the amount of internal torsion. We find that the highest packing densities are achieved in low torsion packings for large systems, but in high torsion packings for small systems. An...
متن کاملExact Simplified Non-Linear Stress and Fracture Analysis around Cavities in Rock
M. A. BIOT* A non-linear analysisforfinite strain and stress has been developed and applied to symmetrical deformations around cylindrical and spherical cavities in rock. The material non-linearity which is involved may result porn either elastic or plastic properties. A drastic analytical simplification reduces the problem to the solution of a,first order differential equation. Fracture is ana...
